Make sure that the important areas of the home (see below) are in good condition. Remember, all homes have drawbacks. You are trying to show a nice home with some problems, NOT a problem home with some nice features!

Important areas
Pay particular attention to the following areas:

• Driveway, lawn, sidewalk and shrubs. Trim the growth, edge the rest to sharpen the image of the exterior.
• Front door area. Many buyers have experienced near-death situations while attempting to force their way through the dense undergrowth that protects many of this nation's front doors. Remove the shrubs/trees that hinder access. Clean the area. Paint where necessary.
• The first interior view. What do you see when you open the main door into your home? Make sure that the first view is a good view.

• Any light, nearly white, color that you prefer.

Should each room have a different color carpet?

• No.

I do not like neutral colors. Why should I choose one for the home that I am selling?

• You are not decorating for yourself, but rather for the next owner. You do not know their taste. But you do know something new and clean and neutral has a nearly universal appeal.

We bought our home 30 years ago. It has a great, dark green carpet. Why not leave it and let the buyer pick their own carpet?
